I don't understand Maven enough, so I added the build.xml (Ant) in avalon root, which just invokes a bunch of maven where required to get Merlin on its feet from a fresh checkout. (However, it probably doesn't work on all platforms).
(Grin) This morning I realized that the BUILD.XML in avalon was an ANT script not a MAVEN one and gues what,
it doesn't work on WIN2000! I am however only using MAVEN beta 9.
