that sounds strange. I have seen nothing wrong in Your description of installation. Maybe Your profile is corrupt. Create a new profile (use a _new_ profile name!) and try again. My beonex installation (running W2k SP2 no M$-patches) works quite fine, so that will remove OE next time if possible. Also I am interested to know the reasons for You not to use beonex mailnews.
