Dear Allan,

Since the XML syntax for a filter in 0.5 is different from that in 0.7, when
you important a 0.5 configuration, settings may not be converted to 0.8 100%
correctly, such as mismatched filter types. Backwards compatibility (BC) module
in 0.8 is responsible for importing previous versions of BioMart configuration
and converting it to 0.8 format. Testing for BC module was primarily focused on
0.7 configuration. It would be great if you can make this 0.5 configuration
available to us, we will be able to look into the problem more closely and come
up with a solution.

In the meanwhile, you should be able to change filter type and update dropdown
list in 0.8 using MartConfigurator. To do that, navigate to the filter and
right-click it, then choose 'Dropdown list', and in the window click the
'Update' button. With this, you will see the empty box becomes filled by the
distinct values in the database for the corresponding table column. Please make
sure your data source (listed in the left panel) is set up correctly, ie, the
database connection is set up correctly.

Please let us know if you have more questions or having difficulty update the
dropdown list for a filter.

Best regards,

Junjun

I have successfully configured/customized the filters biomart in 0.5
but I am struggling to find how to do the same in Biomart 0.8.

For example for biomart 0.7 we have page 48 of the user-docs pdf that
clearly describes and illustrates the create a drop down list filter,
a multi-select drop down list filter and so on. Where can I find
similar information for Biomart 0.8, I have been looking at the
"Biomart 0.8 User Manual release candidate 6 May, 2011" but seem not
to find these details.

At the moment (in Biomart 0.8rc6) I seem to only succeed converting an
ordinary filter to a file upload control by simply selecting "upload"
value to the "type" property in the "MartConfigurator Version 0.8".
But I when I provide "singleSelect" to the "type" property then start
the server, I am presented with a disabled control (in the web browser
for the filter I did make the change to) and the control displays "No
Data". I am sure the underlying table field pointed to by this control
does have data as I can successfully provide and filter the results
based on some value I provide to this control before I attempted to
change it's type to a drop down list.

So what at the fields in the MartConfigurator do I need to modify to
successfully have other types of controls such as the drop down list
and so on.

Allan.
