Do you mean your hosts do not have access to the internet?

realhostip does not care the ip that you pass to it is public or private.
 As long as the machine that is doing the lookup can get to the ip you are
ok:

$ dig +short 127-0-0-1.realhostip.com
127.0.0.1
$ dig +short 192-168-1-1.realhostip.com
192.168.1.1
$ dig +short 255-255-255-255.realhostip.com
255.255.255.255
