I agree that in a "ideal" world there should be no
markup in an normal database; however, because we
are still at the point of 'changeover' (moving from plain
text to XML) there is often a need to do exactly this kind
of thing - keep the bulk of data in neat database compartments,
with some fraction containing *some* markup - thereby
taking advantage of the "best of both worlds"; database
speed, security, etc and XML "intelligence".  In the Ideal
World (coming soon - watch this space!)  we'll have XML 
databases with a complete set of advantages.

In the meantime Tim can put <esql:get-xml> wrappers
around his HTML markup data coming out the database
(and hope its well-formed!!)

As expected. You'll have to do some reparsing. Because a lot
of people subscribed to the bad idea of putting marked up text
into DB strings and similar unfitting containers, you'll find
some hints in the list archive.
