3. Document and Records Management Are there any recommended open source document management systems (preferably Java based) that integrate well with CP? Anyone have any specific experiences with these?
I'm fairly non technical, operating at an executive viewpoint so high level non technical answers would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Matthew's comments were right on the mark. I would just like to add a bit about the content management as I have been looking at content management systems for the past 2 weeks. First, the only industry standard is JSR 170 and it has not been approved yet, although it seems to be getting close. Unfortunately, there aren't any products that I'm aware of that have implemented it. There are many open source content management systems, but most aren't "document management systems" or just content repositories. Instead, they want to generate the presentation. This makes it tough to use a lot of them in a portal or with Cocoon.
From my research I found a couple of open source projects that looked workable, Apache Slide and MMBase, although I haven't done much beyond evaluating them. You can see an extensive list of Java based content management systems at http://java-source.net/open-source/content-managment-systems. FWIW, Lenya is based on Cocoon. Perhaps other folks here can comment on how to effectively use it with the portal.
