If you are upgrading, why not upgrade up to 2.4.7? Or even to 2.5.3 or 2.6.0? If you can, definitely try 2.4.7 or 2.5.3. I know the JBoss guys have been doing various profiling lately and did identify a few issues that were then fixed. In anycase, if you can create a small test case that shows the issue, that would be great.
