That means  that you didn't setup a root account when you 
first started MySQL. You should have one for localhost and 
the IP of your server. But that doesn't matter as far as 
OOo is concerned.

Yes, so in other words you _can_ do that. So 192.168.1.2 is 
the server and you've removed the server software from your 
client. The problem now is the OOo software. So fire up 2.0 
beta and. . .

tools>options>java>add>path to your mandrake jre(if it's not 
already highlighted, otherwise install it)

tools>options>java>class path>add archive>the .jar file I 
sent you

restart OOo 2.0

file>new>database>connect to existing 
databse>mysql>next>connect using 
JDBC>test>192.168.1.2>3306>com.mysql.jdbc.Driver>finish
