Yes, unpack, then move file mysql-connector-java3.1.8-bin.jar to the
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1.1.4\program\classes (if you use OO1.1.4).
Then you mast to tell OO where is the driver.

Take: Tools/Options menu, than in Options, in OpenOffice.org use Security
tab, and enable Java and in ClassPath use Browse to Add new mysql-connector
class.

In OO Data sources use Adminstrate data sources and in Database type use
MySQL (in General tab) and in MySQL tab enable Use Connector/J3.

For Data source URL use OO Help, etc. localhost:3306/database_name.

This was for Windows, and it is working.

It must be similar on Linux machines.

windows> (which probably means you did not add the driver to your Java
classpath
    windows> in Tools|Options|OpenOffice.org|Java).

Right I try now to use this driver but I am confused about the
installation procedure. Shall I unpack that driver somewhere and then
just tell oo where to find the jar files via the procedure above or
shall I unpack it in /share/uno_packages and run pkchk --shared?
