At the moment, OOo ships with a pre-release version of HSQLDB, and the current RC12 is in fact not compatible with it, in the sense that OOo needs adjustments to accommodate to RC12. The autoincrement issues are not fixed in HSQLDB, but in OOo, so RC12 wouldn't help you here, anyway.
