I can confirm that I was able to create a grouped report on Base 2.0 RC1 this weekend by the first try out. I work with data stored in two tables of a MySql database. My system is Linux (Debian, sarge), OOo 2.0 MySql on a remote server (local network). The report did not start a new page at every group at all. I used the wizard to create the report.
Kind regards,

Freddy

I was able to create a grouped report one time, but each time the grouped field changed the report started a new page.
Strange. Do you have sample data, and sample settings for the wizard, for this?

I can confirm this behaviour. I have not been able to create a report
behaving any differently.

Frank, are you saying that you can create a grouped report where a next
group starts immediately after the previous one and definitely on the same
page?

Cheers
Gert
