I thought that given an earlier posting I made it would be proper for me to pass on a few interesting developments.

First - Currently there are two 'pro bono' applications written entirley in OOBasic using Base embedded data storage in the field. I have spoken with both users regularly and they are using them pretty much every day. The upgrades to RC1 that where supplied went with out a hitch. Both are happy. Each understand they are on Beta software, but neither has experienced a crash or loss of any data, nor an inability to perform tasks. These are farily simple applications in all fairness, but quite real. Doing real work.

Second - I have knowledge of at least one application using Base as the front end and MS Jet as the data storage engine in production. This is in a multi user environment, each user having a copy of the ODB file on their PC and sharing the database. The application is performing acceptablly. (I did not write this, just helped answer some questions)

Third - Today I was notified by a 'paying - almost' customer that an application, again written entierly in OOBasic, using the embedded database engine has passed their IT department's acceptance tests. They will not field the application (nor pay me..*chuckle*) until the actual stable release of OO.o. But the platform did in fact offer all that was needed for this limited application. Today they also asked for a price on the first 'enhancement'..you gotta love feature creep, they haven't even started using it and see something the 'have to have'.

Fourth - I note that their is already at least one project on Sourceforge being developed using Base as the platform. The project has not released files yet, but have posted some example screen shots and talk as if the release is right around the corner.

Finally - There are a good number of people on the Forum making real progress in getting Base applications up and running.

So - It appears that Base, as is, is actually quite usable. Any comments I might have made to the contrary where hasty and unwarranted.

That said..

Hey, whein is the final release due? I really want to get paid. :-X

ps. Does this mean I won't continue to be pain the in the posterier about things I want...not likely.
