the hsqldb.jar must be in the program folder of the office, otherwise the hsqldb2*.so can not be found by the jar file.

Sorry, this should have been program/classes.

Thank you, now it says "no hsqldb2 in java.library.path"

Is there someway to just tell it where these files are, rather than creating a link for each one in the /openoffice/program directory?

This shouldn't be necessary at all. I'm a little bit surprised that your
original OOo version does not seem to contain hsqldb.jar (at least you
didn't mention) - where did you get it from? Was it an "official"
release from www.openoffice.org, or a specially-built version from some
Linux vendor?

Moving the link to the classes directory fixed the problem. I installed OpenOffice with a deb via the Synaptic Package Manager, utilizing the Agnula & Debian/Debian US repositories.

Thank you
Douglas
