If, with "other applications", you mean Calc and/or Writer, this is already possible today. Perhaps you should describe your concrete use case in more detail. If, with "other applications", you mean applications which are not part of OOo, then those applications will never be able to do a "SELECT * FROM <query>" if <query> is an OOo-side query, stored in the .odb file.
