Hello Again: Just after sending the previous email, I stumbled on the
solution to this problem:
1) Somewhere along the line, an "mdb" selection became available under
the "connect to an existing database" option in the new, database...
menu path. I'm not sure when this occurred, possibly after downloading
the snapshot and I just didn't pick it up at that time. As I mentioned
previously, at no time did I ever successfully install mdbtools.
2) This process requires that I save it as an .odb file as well, but
that's not a problem. This could be because I already had a file of this
type, but this is not an issue.
3) The only way to subsequently open the file using the new, database
path is to repeat the whole "new, database" setup process again. A
better method is just to go directly to the "view, data sources" menu
option, which opens the file directly.
Sorry about all the confusion; hope this helps someone else.
