Attached is the roughest of ideas. This is just an idea for a fictitious company, how it does business and how one might build a system with OpenOffice ( Base ) to meet it's goals.

What I have done is list a number of business functions ( very loosely ) and what I think are needed items to support them.

The list of functions might be too large to tackle within the 100 hour time frame, but I was thinking it might be easier to pare down then add up.

As for smaller database examples as the work progressive, I think the first is easy see. As for the next one or two..I could use some input on what functionality is appropriate. Here is a quick pass at it.

For the novice user – A very simple contact database. A couple of tables, two or three queries, two forms and a canned report. Also a template to generate address labels. No forms opening forms, no parameterized queries, no scripting.

For the fledgling / apprentice user – Add the order information to the contact database. Now you have 1 to n tables, data entry forms that require light scripting, queries with multi-table joins and the use of a Calc template to generate an invoice.

For the fledgling / apprentice user – Add the seminar section. ( Minus the generation of the presentation file perhaps ) It has all of the underlying features as the orders, and perhaps a bit more on the forms management side ( forms calling other forms and passing information )

For the final demo application – well...lets talk.

I hope to hear from people – pro or con. In the meantime I will keep working on a work breakdown, add some ideas for forms needed and how I would see the final demo application working. ( dialogs, menus, libraries...etc )

Sincerely

Drew
