Yes, that's part of the problem ... There a very few major companies which sponsor people working on OOo, and which, to a certain extent, follow own interests. "Please the users / customers" is an interest of at least Sun, but again to a certain extent only. Other people/companies have other interests, but are seldom able (which is okay) or willing (which is less okay :) to spend resources on this. (Let aside for the moment that finding your way through the code base requires stamina for the beginners ...)
