So, I'll continue to use both, until Base will have grown a little more.
Well, that makes sense - If you should change your mind about the cost
/ benefit ratio I can at leat point to this somewhat related thread on
the Form. It has some example basic code for automating a daily csv
feed into a Base database to be used for a mailmerge in Writer.

Hi Andrew,
thanks for your willingness and for the reference too, but it seems to
drive me far for my purposes. Perhaps it's better that I explain exactly
what I need.
I have two Excel spreadsheets, the first one has only one sheet (text
only), the second one has a few sheets (again text only).
1. Once a week I download from Internet an updated copy of the first
spreadsheet and want to quickly check whether it has changed or not and,
in case, how. Until now I used Access with two spreadsheets linked as
external sources, let's say OldData.xls (previous download) and
NewData.xls (last download). Each time I have only to rename the
spreadsheets as above.
Inside Access, I built two queries that look for "not matching data" in
both sheets, in order to find either new entries and excluded. That's all.
At present this is not doable with Base, because it's not allowed to
link more than one external datasource.
2. The second spreadsheet can be linked as external datasource in Base
and all its sheets are visible as tables. Also these ones change from
time to time and I'd need to run several queries on them, but it's not
allowed to build queries with more than one table/sheet at a time.
Otherwise, I'd have already found a nice solution for the first problem,
too.
I know that some workaround can be found, but, as I stated earleir, it's
not worth.
Thanks again and best regards,
Franco
