Last week I put up a post about 'the other guys', this week I thought I
would put up a post about 'youz' guys as they would say in NY, NY.

Here is a snippet from an entry on the Base board at the OOoForum made today
by a user in Santa cruz, Bolivia:

" CONCLUSION:

for my current problem: I will use a plain installation of OO with Windows
XP as an operating system (and change nothing).

For others wishing to use MS ACCESS under linux.... under current
circumstances (mid 2007) I would not do it .

If you are designing a solution with OO Base as front end, and another
database as backend to work in Linux. I suggest you build the sql part in
linux, so that you can test how it behaves.

On the OO code side - I don't see much of a problem, my code was working
fine: I ported from Windows XP to linux and had no major problem.

So once again: MS ACCESS with OO Base in xubuntu (linux/debian)
this is a NO GO for now.

'--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the Windows XP side: if you want to use MS ACCESS with OO Base
(not so relevant for this thread, but I put it anyway):

You can - it will work very well (you may have to do some engineering, but
you can get 99% to work very fast).

I chose MS Access because I needed something "quick & dirty". I used it to
complement OO Base weaknesses (can't copy paste data into tables as
efficiently, can't nest queries, can't write store procedures as sql...).

The combined solution MS Access & OO Base is working very well under Windows
XP. I was, indeed very surprised, at how OO has been able to connect to MS
Access. On the sql side I have pushed MS Access to the limit with things
that are very "Access" specific (i.e. they would not work the same way on
normal sql). OO Base had no problem most of the time. Very impressive
indeed. With this solution, our non profit agency will dispense of MS Office
and just use OO.

Thanks to Open Office ....."
