Good day Uwe,
If I may ask, what are thinking of when you say "to be suitable for a
'normal' Base user"?
More expressive ( expansive ) descriptions?
the list at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Built-in_functions_and_Stored_Procedures
is quite alright.
There are some examples, and this helps users a lot, in my opinion.
Some entries have no example, as at the end of the list the VAR_SAMP. No
user would know what to do with this entry.
The introduction text on this page is also a bit away from the normal
user. Too technical.
Sure it helps the advanced user. And may be only the advanced user will
ever want to use functions in the Report Builder. I don't know. It is
always difficult to find the right level of detail. Some users may be
happy with exact syntax descriptions, while others may really need
examples.

Alright I have the page
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/Reports/Functions
setup with simple grids for the functions.
I add the description for the functions which are available in the
libformula($VERSION).jar and the java file which creates the output. :-)
I would like to have such a Wiki page that is written for the "normal"
Base user. I could then refer the user to that page by a link from the
installed help.
Unfortunately there is no chance to have lists and explanations of all
the Report Builder functions in the installed help. Much too many words
to translate. So we would really need an English Wiki page with such a
list. There other language projects can add links to their translated
pages once they become available.
