Hi Drew,

No the website.... that information should be deprecated otherwise it provoke 'information pollution'.
Or flagged as to the version. Some folks still use version 1.x I suppose.

In general though that is one of the differences between using the main site and a wiki. Really do we want to have to go thru a gate keeper to update information like this?

No. But unfortunately, for updating the dba main site, CVS access is
required, which only a few persons have. I see if I can find time to put
a correct version of that site into the Wiki, and remove the site from
dba.ooo.

Ciao

Morning Frank,

Alexandro does bring up a good point though, about information pollution. I suppose one way to look at it might be to use the main site for a location where information is vetted. The wiki has advantages for quick updates and the like, but it is going to require a certain amount of monitoring by folks. Actually, the wiki can offer access restrictions also, but as far as I know that isn't being used at the moment. I would not be expected if when the manuals are fully transfered into the documentation area that it might not be locked down. I don't know what the plans are on that.

One of the possible options that has been talked about is how we might create some synergy between the wiki and the forum. Haven't really had much in the way of detailed talks on that yet, but it has come up with the documentation folks on a few occasions.

MySQL is a good example of this. They have the documentation and then at the end they have comments by end users, sometimes these have the most pertinent information when looking for an answer. I need to speak with someone there about how they do that and let Frank Peters know what I find out. It may be something more like comments to a blog, where the comments go to a moderator first, and if they are deemed as useful then they are appended. I really think something like this would be great approach.
