Hi, I want to know if anyone is running OOo with a PostgreSQL
conection. I would like to document the conection process and common
issues that the driver currently have. Also maybe have some common
workarounds.
Thanks.
Good morning Alexandro,
How are you today?
There are number of people active on this and the dba dev lists that use
postgres. I've been using it pretty much daily for the last 2 months or
so in setting up the new user community forum and just now getting into
the effort of using the Sun Report Builder to get some metrics out of
it. For myself it's only been with JDBC so far, but I see at pgFoundry
that there are also .net, odbc, and Ole-DB drivers also. The other folks
on the lists will be much more advanced in this then me.
As it turns out then you and I have been thinking alike, as I have been
planning on starting a couple of wiki pages for connectivity:
HSQLdb server
HSQLdb file based
PostgreSQL
Firebird
Derby
A couple of thoughts on this though. There are two individuals already
designated to spear head the effort to keep the Base oriented wiki pages
in some sort of order, Simon Wilper and Mechtilde Stehmann. So I was
thinking that it may not be such a bad idea to actually coordinate this
particular work with them...( not that I tend to do that very
much..LOL..but I'm going to to try and get better at it. )
Anyway - an idea I had was to do the following.
Put the connectivity pages off of the Base page as sub pages. So the
URL's would be
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/MS Access
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/HSQLdb
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/HSQLdb/server
( maybe )
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/HSQLdb/file (
maybe )
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/MySQL
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/PostgreSQL
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/Firebird
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/Derby
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/SQLite
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base/connectivity/AdaBase (
might as well, as far as I can tell the folks getting StarBase via
Google are going to end up here - Yes I know there is the SUN forums but
they are already starting to show up at OOoForum instead / also )
Then to create a subcategory of connectivity for all of these pages. It
seems like a nice clean way to handle it.
However, I'm not sure how Simon and Mechtilde would want to do this. For
example they might prefer this off of the Database root instead? So I
wanted to run it by them here first. Not to mention how all this is
going to play in with the Documentation area on the wiki, particularly
the How to section which has a separate category for Base ( or is it
Database ? ), and this almost falls more into a How to I think.
Right now that would mean moving two pages MS Access and MySQL into the
new structure.
Anyway..just more food for thought.
What would be your ideas, comments on this?
Drew
