IF there was a list for users I think it would be much better since there
are many questions (user base). I think we can just promote it on OOoForum
which is where I see most of the user-base questions that people have of
the module.
Also I would love to see a template initiative where we can upload Base
configurations for common things like 'Checkbook', 'Calendar', 'Contact
book'... and so on.
Any volunteers?

Only dba.openoffice.org has as a users as a dev activ mailing list.
The other modul project lists has only very few postings (like writer or

Good point - the user mailing lists for the other modules are all but
empty!
Then of course, raw numbers can be very deceiving - for instance it
could be that Base has a minuscule number of users, but a much higher
proportion of those users need to request help because of the lack of
documentation - it may also be, and this is my strongly held belief,
that the a database module, by its nature, requires more support
activity then a word processor - even more then a spreadsheet module,
but the gap here would be much smaller.
Let me throw out another couple of numbers then:
>From a study released by Forrester Research Inc. in the last quarter
of 2007, as reported on in Redmond Developer's 12/2007.issue.
Finally, Microsoft controls 22 percent of the market with SQL Server
and Access databases.
The report further states:
A growing number of enterprises are using Microsoft's Access desktop
database. Yuhanna says 25 percent used Access in some form three years
ago, and now that figure is up to 40 percent.
If we assume some credence to the report then it would appear that in
the enterprise market there is a niche for a desktop database. I would
be surprised if in the SOHO/SMB market that isn't significantly higher.
The difference IMO opinion would be in how it is being used. In the
enterprise Access fills a role less about the data engine and much more
about reporting on department and work group levels against enterprise
databases. It also, as has been widely discussed in the media, allows
work groups and department level management to get around IT budgets and
policies.
Anyway - just some fun numbers to look at.
