Not really. OOo always shipped with a driver for connecting to an Adabas
D database (which you might consider being justified by the fact that
there is a free download version of Adabas D available, which is limited
in the number of concurrent users and the maximum DB size).
However, StarOffice shipped with more: it included a version of the
Adabas D engine itself, and it included an extended version of the
driver, which also provided some UI for creating databases (which wasn't
possible with the OOo version of the driver).

Now recently, all which happened so far is that the extended driver
version was moved to the OOo code.

Well, everything said here assumes that the "AdaBase" in Drew's original
mail is a type, and was meant to be "Adabas D". If it wasn't, then I in
fact need to install an OpenOffice.org DEV300 build ASAP, to see who
added a new database type there ...
