Hi Drew,

I am working on the certification project and I would love to see Base and Draw more 'in' the role of the certification. However most of the material for base is still lagging (in OOoAuthors). I know that you have work on that a bit. Currently the certification stand on the Getting started document for Base.

However I have seen a lot of content at OOoForums and would love to get some links on things that can be useful to get the Base certification off the ground.

Currently I have this syllabus which looks acceptable. But I would like your opinon on the matter.

Hello Alexandro,

One thing, if I may. I appreciate your singling me out, however, there are lots of folks that have valuable knowledge for this and have contributed of there time and talent. Mechtilde jumps immediately to mind as do Marc, Regina, Ariel, Alex and others. On the forums I would really look for responses from SlideRule, Squenson, QuazziEvil (soon to publish a book on Base I believe), Villeroy, JohnV, Wurzel, Kabring ( others whose moniker escapes me at the moment..sorry ) - some really great stuff from these folks about Base. ( and that is just the English language forums - there is a lot of Base knowledge on the French and German forums - the Norwegian forum not so much...we really need to find a Norsk speaking missionary for the folks in the land of my ancestors I think :>) Heck, even Frank and Ocke might have some valuable input...LOL...you never know...they might. Uwe for sure.

What I will do is put an announcement up on the Community Forum and OOoForum about the project ( also ask for an announcement on the hu and fr community forums ). Maybe find some volunteers to help with input.

Data mining the forums database is a really great idea - to be honest it is not something I could not really look at before July however.

On that issue and in the case of the Community Forums one can (will be able to) download the entire database for off-line data mining projects. Terry Ellison has been working on a VM appliance that delivers the complete environment as a single download. As part of the package we have expunged all personally identifying information from the database ( email addresses, ip addresses and the like ). This includes the En, Hu and now Fr forums ( The work of migrating the Fr database from MySQL to PostgreSQL was finished last weekend actually, and the three forums are finally on a common platform both front and back) The French forum has a database that goes back 2 1/2 years as opposed to ~7 months for the English. We are also hopeful that in the near future the database from OOoForum.org can be added to this package - but that is in no way certain at this point. I'm being a just little premature in telling you of this as Terry uploaded what is hoped to be the final cut of the VM appliance just last night and is now waiting on me to run it through a test cycle before making it generally available for download. The plan is to then publish updates to the database on some regular basis.

Well, I digress. Bottom line - the outline looks pretty good, but I would hasten to add that there are some wholes in my opinion. Mostly dealing with general relational database subject matter that IMO would really be needed. I'll start beating the drum then for some help.

Drew
