Argh. If you never enter anything in the "remarks" control, then it
never gets a chance to update its content into the database row, thus
the respective column stays NULL.

If you enter a string into the "remarks" control, leave the control (so
the string gets committed), then remove the string from the control, and
*then* commit the record, an empty string is updated, as expected.

I think I should visit IZ (not that I did much else this morning) ...
