Thank you Drew for this interesting link.

Base is somehow almost there regarding corporate IT concerns, because it can access remote databases with its drivers. The issue raised is the creation of a local (desktop) database file. Ideally (corportation-wise) is to let Base only acess remote DB under IT control. The initial Base versions (1.x) had no local engine, which is the situation desired.
