The extension works in both StarOffice and OpenOffice.org. However, you need at least StarOffice 9.1, StarOffice 9.0 won't do. The error message shown in this case is misleading since it claims to require OpenOffice.org 3.1, but this is a general bug in our extension infrastructure, not related to the MySQL Connector extension.
