Plus, you're talking about using the Flex API to compile native
applications, not using it to produce Flash content for the web, which
is what the article is on about, before it gets side tracked at the end
into the unrelated issue of desktop designed experiences not working on
smaller screens.

This wasn't the case on my Nokia N900 or with any Flash content
*designed for mobile* embed in web pages. Even YouTube was/is fine.
Sure, it'd kill the battery if you watched 3 hours of it, but nobody
really wants to watch hours and hours of video on small screens. And if
I'm interacting with some Flash content, why would I be scrolling around
anyway ?

Just as wrong now as then. 99% of people wanting to watch any video only
need 'click' (on 'play'), which works 100% fine on mobile Player, obviously.

Actually, the Open Screen project delegated this to their partners, who
effectively just added a HAL around the core Player.

Do you develop Flash (swf) or mobile App ?
Adobe doesn't support Flash for Android 4.1 and further (though, it works);
Flash never worked on iOS; but, if you develop Apps, it isn't important for
you.
