Hello Peter!
thank you for your answer.
You know, now that you placed the above URLs _together_ it all fits in
place. Basically what you are lacking is a connection between the
layered repository layout (http://fsvs.tigris.org/purpose.html) and
the fact that multiple URLs automate the exact task of assembling
the final version from multiple points in the same tree (which
seems to only be described in the HOW-TO).
Everything I read so far led me to believe that this combination
process is _manual_ (and subsequently I didn't care much for it).
So the only change necessary to the docs is explicitly mentioning
the URL mechanism (perhaps with links to the HOW-TO) everywhere the
layered layout is mentioned. I think this'll do it for thickheads
like me :)
Now I have one more request ...
In which order did you read the documentation? At which point did you make
that connection to "manual"?
Ie. where should I place links exactly, to get the most effect?
I'd like to avoid cluttering the documentation with cross-references that
are not even present in the installation.
So please - where do you think is the most *mis-leading* part in the texts?
Do you have any other ideas or proposals what I could change/add?
Sorry, this email got lost in my todo list. The reason I got misled was that
the very first text I came across was this:
http://fsvs.tigris.org/source/browse/*checkout*/fsvs/trunk/www/doxygen/html/group__howto__backup.html
Since it only talks about a single URL throughout the entire document (which
is very natural for someone who has been using subversion for years), I
completely excluded the possibility of the real way things work.
Hope this information helps a bit
Peter
