Hello First off, I'm relatively confident that this is the wrong mailing list for this, but I'm not sure which would be a better place.
I have a feature request, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I don't believe it is a mature enough idea to submit as a feature request yet, and I think its complexity far outweighs my programming skills. I'd like to gauge others' interest, the ideal implementation, and the level of complexity and effort required to implement (can it be done as a plugin, etc?). Thoughts or a better venue for this type of discussion are much appreciated....I'd just like to get the ball rolling on this as an eventual feature. ------- My idea is that the office should have an integrated command-window at the application level... something like Gnome-Do or the Spotlight/Quicksilver apps on mac (the best implementation, IMHO is the "everything" plugin for e17). basically, a small window is shown on hitting a convenient keyboard shortcut (or gui button of some type), into which arbitrary text is entered. Entering text searches a number of frequently used documents or commands along with (frequently-used) options for interacting with them. Let's say my command is CTRL + Spacebar. I hit CTRL + spacebar, type in "foo", and it offers to search the current document(s) for "foo", but might also bring up a list of documents entitled "foo" to open (or switch between, or perform other actions on), etc. The point to offer very convenient keyboard (and mouse) access to features by searching for their objects or the functions themselves, rather than switching between keyboard/mouse or memorizing infrequently used keyboard combinations. The best way of getting a feel for this is to use Quicksilver or Everything plugins for a bit and imagine the possibilities for in-app implementation. Office suites are the perfect place to add this into, as they're already pretty heavily keyboard-centric. Thoughts or directions on where I should take this?
