I've been working on a translation for the past week or so. The file was
provided in Word format. Initially I tried to work with it as such but
Writer froze while "exporting" the file as it (presumably) autosaved. A bit
before half way, the status bar stopped in its tracks.

I then started working in open document format, with no problems, but on
completing the job, when I tried to save as XP, the same thing happened. I
gave it a long time to complete (maybe 15 minutes) but it stayed frozen.
When I attempted to convert the same file using OpenOffice, there were no
problems.

As I said in my original post, this was using Salix 13.2 beta. Salix is
preparing to switch to LibreOffice for its next release.

This is the version installed:

root[mimosa]# slapt-get -l | grep libre
djvulibre-3.5.22-i486-2 [inst=yes]: djvulibre (web-centric document and
image format)
libreoffice-3.3.0-i486-1gv [inst=yes]: libreoffice (free office suite)
libreoffice-l10n-af-3.3.0-i486-1gv [inst=no]: libreoffice-l10n-af Afrikaans

....

Unfortunately, reliable conversion to proprietary file formats remains a
regrettable necessity for office productivity.
