I just noticed that the subject line I chose is highly misleading! I was using *Writer*, not Word. The brainwashing during my years as a Microsoft user still clearly hasn't worn off.
@Tom - Salix is a lot easier than Slackware, so even a newbie like myself can use it without too many problems! But it has Slackware's stability and transparency, alongside some very elegant graphical system management and configuration tools. Above all, software dependencies are dealt with automatically in package management.
