The OOXML filters really don't cut it just yet in lots of situations, especially with roundtrip conversions of tables, image placements, and headers, big documents, etc, just as a few examples off the top of my head from the bug reports. Work is being done to improve the OOXML filters though, and performance when importing / exporting, by moving the filters to C++ rather than having to depend on Java and XSLT processing.
