Hi :) Or you could change the defaults that are used. Initially they are set as odf; odt, ods, opd but these could easily be changed to doc, xls, ppt Tools - Options - Load/Save - General and then use the drop-downs to scroll their formats back 1 or 2 places (avoiding template formats).
Does LibreOffice/OpenOffice behave a bit like Gimp? Can you just type in the file-ending to make it save in the format you want?
