Using Gmane for some groups generally implies 1. Registering with Gmane in that group (it automatically sends you a message if you never wrote to that group before) 2. Registering with the list itself It apparently is not the case with this list -- you can still post if you're not registered, but you get through moderation. To use Gmane you already have to give your real e-mail, IIRC. So it's not much of a privacy issue. Please note that what Cor suggested was that you subscribe the *nomail* version of the list.
