You might get better answers from the devs mailing-list or iirc or something.  
Compiling and stuff is way beyond the scope of most of us on the Users List.  

I don't think there is a regular build for Bsd but it 'should' mostly work.  
About a week ago there was an interview written by one of the devs expressing 
mild annoyance / amusement about having to keep reminding devs to try to prefer 
unix/cross-platform versions of commands rather than Gnu&Linux versions.  Still 
it sounded quite positive imo.  I thought i had added the link to 
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice_In_The_Press
but now i can't find it.
