Hi :) That does sound broken. Have you tried re-naming the user-profile? Hopefully this guide might help you find the path http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426 but really the best way to find the right location is to click on Tools - Options - LibreOffice/General - Paths
Hopefully you can use your normal file-browser to navigate to the bit the various pathnames have in common, ... libreoffice/3/user/... I tend to rename the "3" and give it today's date in reverse-date order, eg something like "2011-10-16" instead of "3". Then when you re-open LibreOffice it should generate a new "3" with "gfactory default" settings (not always the same as were set by the original install btw). If that does fix the problem then you can copy things from the old renamed folder until LO breaks again in order to find which thing broke it. Then just remove that file. Note that the user-profile contains galleries, extensions, templates and all sorts of things you may have added to personalise LO. Copying them back into the right places in the new folder re-instates them without having to download or mess around with individual settings.
