You always could write the header/footer "on the margins" (both in LO and in
MS Word). You just need to slide the ruler limiters to the grey part ;)

One limitation of LO 3.4.x (haven't tested on 3.5) is that the Text
Boundaries line of the Header/Footer doesn't adjust to this new size (i.e.
no longer contains the text or objects in the 

It is a GOOD thing that LO allows this, Miroslaw. If you notice most books,
the Header and Footer (in particular page numbers) are outside the text
margins ;)
