I'm using LibreOffice 3.3.4 (Language settings: western, English/Asian, Japanese) (Build:401) installed on OS X 10.6.8 (English OS)

I downloaded and saved a .ZIP file containing two .docx files and unzipped them to the same place. when I try to open them I get the following error message: /username/foldername/filename.docx cannot be opened because it does not exist. The file name is in Japanese hiragana. When I change the file name to a western font it opens as usual.

Why can't I open files with Japanese file names? I have been using 3.3.4 since it's release and I have not had this problem before.

I would check the character set that LO is using. It sounds like it using UTF-8, which is western only and you need to use one of the other.

Also, check under Tools>>Options>>Langauge Settings>>Languages and verify that Enable East Asian Languages is checked.
