Hmmm, although your java 1.6u31 might be causing the problem it might not and 
other programs might be depending on it and unable to use the 1.7u4 yet.  So, 
maybe don't uninstall the 6u31 just install the 7u4 alongside.  You can have 
multiple versions of java on the same machine but ideally you want to remove 
older versions and then if something grumbles then perhaps reinstall one of the 
older versions.  Hopefully most programs will pick-up on the newer version and 
start using that without any intervention but the world is seldom an ideal 
place ;)

Bad news. v3.4.6 has the same crash problem. Its splash screen and 
soffice.bin came up for a second and then exited quickly. I noticed a 
lot of empty lu*.tmp folders/directories (e.g., lufcg17.tmp) in my 
Windows' %temp% folder/directory left behind too if those are clues.
