The recovery problem is not fixed.
I deleted the timothy/"app data"/"LO folder" and the went to the folder
that held the "recent document" "links" that shows up in XP in the
recent document list.
Then I stared LO and it did not give me the "recovery" option.
I had not used the laptop for a long time and the file was deleted when
I deleted the folders where a friend placed all his files when he
borrowed the laptop. His 1 year old one died big time. He used LO
instead of MSO, as long as Impress would "play" the MSO presentations he
had to study and show to groups at a local Food Bank.
Well, at least it is done.
I know that there are some XP systems that have trouble with LO. I did
a clean install of XP on a machine that LO crashed the first time I
opened it. But the reinstall/repair option fixed it. Why this happens,
I do not know.
Was there something about Java and LO having issues somewhere? Could
the newest Java engine be doing craze things? Since the clean installs
of XP would want to download the newest Java somewhere in the process
before LO is installed.

I did a scratch install of 3.4.6 on my XP/pro machine.
No crash.
I did a partial delete then ran it again,
did the repair, OK again
Did it a third time but did the repair instead of the delete, and it
worked again.
There has to be something in your system.
I tried to make the install work hard to install it on my XP machine,
but it never crashed.
The only problem is somewhere there is a place that stores the
recovery info and it keeps trying to recover an Impress document that
was deleted. I do not know what I have to delete to get it cleared
out on an XP machine.

Also,
The Application Data folder is a hidden one. If you go to your
folder options and allow for system and hidden folders to be viewed,
then delete the LibreOffice folder in your user folder's Application
Data folder, it should help.
I assume you mean C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\LibreOffice\, then yes I did earlier.
