Since I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8, I suppose I can use its Time Machine feature to restore my past LibreOffice profile.
However, I do think it would be nice for LibreOffice to address migrating to new versions in a more user friendly way. Perhaps something like the automatic check that happens when Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird get updated. The feature will test all addons to make sure they work, and if not, offers to try to update them for you. Making backups is always important, but, again, I propose some enhancements could be made to the LibreOffice upgrade process so that the user experience can be less "abrupt/surprising" than extensions disappearing without warning.
