Hi :) There's not much advantage and maybe even some disadvantage. I think most of the advantage is in the desktop integration files in the relevant folder once you unpack the download. There is one folder for KDE and another for Gnome. The Gnome one covers Xfce and a couple of others. The main thing thay do is just make it a bit prettier and pick-up on whatever theming you have.
LO doesn't really do anything as small as an undate, They are all upgrades but they should be able to find and use your old User Profile.
