Hi :)
I'm not quite sure which platform you mean or what type of files you are
talking about.

If it's Windows and MS formats then just try reinstalling the same version of LibreOffice to get
back to the question you get asked during normal installation. On Windows instead of doing the
full reinstall it gives a "Repair" option. Somewhere in there should be 3 tick boxes
allowing LibreOffice to be the default Office Suite on your machine. After that if people still
want to open a specific document with MS Office or anything else then they can just right-click and
choose "Open with ...". Double-clicking on a file will just open it in LibreOffice.

Tom :)

only

        If this is the case, then add step 3 to the directions previously
posted -
            right-click on the document ->
               click on 'properties' ->
                  check the 'read-only' box.

Hi. Or do you mean to have LO only be able to open documents in read-only
mode.

          Do you perchance mean to use LO to view documents by default?;
              if so, then either (1) go to options/preferences of your
machine's programs ->
                  choose to always open documents with LO;
                                  or (2) right-click on any document ->
                  choose LO to open it, and check to always use this program
to open these documents.

          If this is not what you're asking, then I'm sorry and hope someone
else will have the answer your seeking.

Thank very much to all for your help ;) An apology for some ambiguity in my explanation. That I want to do with LibreOffice is use it in read-only mode by default in place of edit function as odfviewer: http://opendocumentfellowship.com/odfviewer, pptview for powerpoint presentations or Evince or Adobe Reader for PDF documents. That is to say that no document can be opened for editing without assigning permissions previously in LibreOffice, only use it as a ODF documents viewer. Thanks.
