Yes, I am able to download LO from other sites (as well as other software, images, etc.) ... I have not tried any other browsers. If I get a chance maybe I will; if so, I'll see what happens with LO. I have default preferences set; the downloads always go into the /Downloads directory. No issues there with permissions and such things so far as I can tell.
