Hi :) Best way is to make a copy of the file somewhere safe before trying anything.
You can use Nabble to send a file to the mailing list. Just above the message window in Nabble is a button called "More" and it's top option is to "Upload a file". It injects a bit of html coding into the message so that people can click on the html stuff to get the file. You can edit the html quite a bit but usually it's default is good enough. You can rename the ".docX" to make the ending a ".zip" and then look inside. If images were missing from the file they might be in the "images" folder in the zip-file. There's various other things you can explore too :) The words are in the "Contents.xml" file but i tend to find that is a nightmare to wade through. Odt files do the same thing but the xml coding is very different. It is probably better to try to find a back-up of the file, such as looking in the "Back-ups" folder of the UserProfile just in case it is in there. It is unlikely but possible; https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile Another surprisingly good way is to find a previous version of the file and 'just' add the changes back in. It's often amazing how much faster it is to re-type a document than it was to write in the first place. A lot of the choices or research you did along the way is likely to take a LOT less time. It might not be identical and might often seem worse but sometimes you find it's got some good improvements. So, have you emailed it to someone recently (still in your "Sent box?"), or carried it somewhere on a usb-stick (even if deleted the stick's bin might not have been emptied yet or it might be possible to do some data-recovery) * https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery Did you save the file on a network file-share, cloud or anywhere that might have a back-up. Back-ups are extremely important in the computer world. They can be anything from just a simple copy&paste of a single file to elaborate systems that attempt to back-up large areas of data.
