Which window manager are you using and which file menus (OS native or
LO) under Options>LO>General>open save dialogues.

To echo what Philip says, I have also encountered it in the past, when it
has really "bugged" me. I have tried to reproduce it with my current
system LO 5.0.2.1 (32 bit) under Linux Mint 17.2 and it doesn't happen
(leastways not yet).

When saving any type of libre office file ( odp, odt, ods ..)
the blue bar of the focus is on the name of the file , so that is where
the
focus "seems" to be, however when typing text ( tot alter the name) the
type
text appears over the formatlabel in the right bottom corner which is
where the
real focus IS
I've noticed this from time to time but I'm not convinced that it's only LO
components. It's certainly not consistent in its appearance. It may be
something connected with Ubuntu 14.04 Next time it happens to me, I'll
try to
remember to log some info.
