computer knowledge with 'ol' pre-computer brain' me.

       ah, so it must not be my computer nor internet service - that's a
relief.

       I think you're right re. influencing Apple - oh, well, I miss the
days when I was welcome to walk in anywhere, & chat with whomever - (I
guess I'm dating myself again - when some folks still referred to computers
as "a passing fad")

       Maybe I should try Linus again - I'll check out Mageia;  see if I
can at least understand what they're saying  ;-)

Upgrade of OS will cause that problem in any OS .. having to download
new version of LO
In Linux, the distribution usually does that for you (OS and LO
together) at the same time
Highly doubtful on the "influence" Apple idea (my opinion)

Oh by the way (opinion again) Mageia has a great community for help, as
well as an easy install and setup (opinion, as I said) ... I use the
Plasma desk top manager.
