Perhaps oddly, I'd managed to somehow select the data columns using
your second method. It's actually 'the rest' of drawing a chart that I
find difficult. :(
Once you've selected your data, as above, and done Insert > Chart, just
select XY (Scatter), confirm that Points Only is selected, and click on
Finish. Does that not give you what you want?
